July 28 is World Hepatitis Day! The goal is to unite people
to raise awareness of the burden of hepatitis and to bring about change. Every year, 1.34 million people die from
hepatitis, and that is as many as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, or malaria. There are five strains of hepatitis (A, B, C,
D, & E), and they can affect anyone in the world. 90% of people with hepatitis B and 80% of
people with hepatitis C do not know that they carry the disease, and they may
develop liver disease in the future or pass the virus on to others. There are
vaccines or treatment options for almost all forms of hepatitis, so learn about
the disease, and visit a health professional to get tested if you think you may
have hepatitis. During July, we will be posting information about hepatitis and
providing resources for you!
