Exercise and Mental Health


One way to improve your mental health is to make sure that you are exercising enough.  The CDC recommends that 30 minutes of exercise 3x a week is enough to improve your health! Exercise has been shown to decrease anxiety and depression, help improve self-esteem, and improve cognitive function.  In addition to other mental health treatments, such as therapy or medication, exercise can help you cope with symptomms.  Here are some of the health benefits of exercise:

  1. Improved sleep
  2. Better endurance
  3. Stress relief
  4. Improvement in mood
  5. Increased energy and stamina
  6. Reduced tiredness that can increase mental alertness
  7. Weight reduction
  8. Reduced cholesterol and improved cardiovascular fitness

You can also make exercise more fun by getting your friends/family to join you! Making exercise fun will help you to remain active.
